Description:
The purpose of the study is to determine the effectiveness and the representation levels of daily life of contexts appeared in 9th grade physics textbook. The study is carried out in the form of a case study. Semi-constructed interviews are used to collect data. The sample group consists of 12 physics teachers in MNE (Ministry of National Education) who teach in 9th grades. It is found that almost half of the teachers do not have enough information about context-based approach. One-third of the teachers does not use textbooks, but the majority of the teachers shows sufficient information about the contexts in the textbook and also they think that contexts represent daily life events. Because it is observed that teachers are insufficient at creating contexts, in-service education courses based on practical work are suggested.
