Nesta pesquisa a teoria das representações foi o plano sobre o qual problematizamos as concepções dos professores a respeito da inclusão do aluno com deficiência no ensino regular. Investigamos a hipótese de que a forma como o professor vê o aluno deficiente na sala de aula orienta seu comportamento e sua prática. O instrumento de coleta de dados consistiu em um questionário com a seguinte evocativa: "incluir um aluno portador de deficiência em minha sala de aula". A população-alvo foi constituída por 107 alunos do curso de Pedagogia da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, dos quais 60 frequentavam o curso no município de Canarana, em 2001, e 47 estavam matriculados na sede, em Cuiabá, em 2005. De forma enfática, o professor fala da educação, a partir de uma matriz identitária intimamente relacionada à sua prática, tendo sua percepção do aluno com deficiência ancorada em uma representação hegemônica da normalidade.<br>In this research, the theory of representations provides the background to discuss teacher's conceptions on the inclusion of students with special needs in the regular school system. We investigated the hypothesis that the way teachers see disabled students in the classroom guides their behavior and practice. Data were collected through a questionnaire including this evocative question: "including a student with special needs into my classroom". The target population was constituted of 107 students of the Pedagogy course at the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso. Sixty attended the course in the township of Canarana, in 2001, and 47 enrolled in Cuiabá, in 2005. Emphatically, teachers speak about education based on an identity matrix closely related to their practice and their perception of students with special needs is rooted in a hegemonic representation of normality.
