Description:
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of instruction enriched with group discussion on the daily life events over the traditional instruction. The subjects of this study consisted of 100 students from the two classes one of them was assigned as experimental group and the other as control group, each having 50 students. An achievement test was implemented prior to the study to compare each student groups’ beginning levels before theinstruction. It was found that there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. While the experimental group was exposed to the treatment, the control group instructed with traditional method. After the intervention; the posttest including problems, which require students to explain events which were different from those used in the class, was administered to the both groups. The experimental group students did statistically betteron post-test than those in the control group. This result proves that using the way of teaching applied in this study in science topics would be more efficient than other methods.
