This paper integrated the characteristics of environmental education with the results of educational and psychological research for constructing a principle to guide the design of CAI courseware for environmental education. From the features of the 3 approaches in environmental education and the theory on the constructivist's view of learning, it was concluded that a student-centred approach should be employed. With a theoretical analysis on the optimal combination of various modes for courseware development, the methods for implementation of those 3 approaches in environmental education are outlined
