Course deign in any discipline should emerge from an interaction between the lecturers’ motivations and justifications for teaching, the learning environment, and students’ diverse needs and desires. In ICT all of these are to an extent controlled by the prevalence of standardised “packages” of training, but because of a lack of uniformity in web design, this sub-discipline may allow a more flexible approach which can better accommodate students’ innate diversity. These ideas are developed through an analysis of the general field and a survey of web design students.
