The present paper aims to highlight deals with several disputed problems in didactics and didactical rhetoric. If the Romanian educational system wants, in theory, to develop competences, then why do we encounter so many difficulties in their operationalization and efficientization? Another problem approached is that of the prerequisites for the development of competences through problem-solving strategies throughout life. The discussion centers on the type of motivations and incentives aiming to promote a goal-oriented behaviour.
